Greetings All
At the website we're featuring for consumers and contractors our inaugural launch of the Introduction to Indoor Air Quality with content courtesy of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency including a full
glossary of terms and source of indoor pollutants from the 11th Edition of the American Institute of Architects Graphics Standard.
For the hydronics industry person involved in public relations and marketing we've loaded up a page called RB's Industry Views, a personal observation of 'how and why'...we'd be happy to hear your thoughts on this
challenging content so please feel free to share your perceptions at the on-line forum.
We've been busy reviewing a number of software and DVD's including an IAQ Simulation Tool from NRC/IRC, the 11th Edition of the AIA Graphics Standard, and from ASHRAE, a DVD on Indoor Environmental Design: Practical Solutions to Everyday
Problems. All three are great resources and we encourage our readers to obtain one or all depending on your needs.
We're continuing our research work on Historical Heating Systems in Healthcare Facilities and came across a quote from Benjamin Franklin on Radiant Heating in the 1800's. The source document is titled, 'Heat and
Style: Eighteenth-Century House Warming by Stoves', Samuel Y. Edgerton, The Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians, Vol. 20, No. 1. (Mar., 1961), pp. 20-26. - fascinating stuff! If you recall we have featured other historical literature in our quest for knowledge with titles like,
Huts and History and Architecture in the Family Way: doctors, houses, and women, 1870-1900. Our next read is from Professor Qinghua Guo, her book, "Chinese Architecture and Planning : Ideas, Methods, Techniques" has an entire section
on heating which I'm looking forward to reading. We've also placed a press release in the forum from ASHRAE on its updated Ventilation Standard 62.1,a must have for our designers.
At the blog we're featuring a quote from CUSTOM HOME Magazine on the price/quality dilemma, a new 700-bed student housing project at Sonoma State University with
radiant floor cooling and four women who make a difference in the world of indoor environmental quality including Architect Dr. Gaetana Aulenti and her Asian
Art Museum of San Francisco who helped Tam Gray of Senior Women Web House make an important heating decision...
In closing off this month's newsletter is a quote from Architect Sarah Susanka, "I did a research project using my own physical senses to tell me what was good design and what wasn't from a very experiential standpoint. I wanted to notice how my body responded physiologically to spaces,
to light, to all the things you get exposed to during your day walking through the built environment."
When industry starts building on 'how your body responded physiologically to spaces' we'll have better indoor environmental quality.
Stay well,
Robert Bean, R.E.T.
