Human Factors in HVAC: Thermal Comfort and Indoor Air Quality for Lifetime Housing
Copyright (C) 2015, Robert Bean, R.E.T., P.L.(Eng.), Healthy Heating and content contributors, All world rights reserved

Overview:
This expression “long term care” rarely invokes thoughts of a non-institutional healthcare facility, such
as one’s own home, toss in a phrase such as “Aging in Place” or “Universal Design” and most people
think of devices or aids for daily living and wheel chair accessibility. Very few housing programs consider
the indoor environmental ergonomics needed for a maturing population. This presentation will prepare
designers, manufacturers and trades people to consider the human factors in HVAC for a growing
population of elders and palliative care persons living at home.

Learning Objectives:
1. Discover how age related physical and cognitive challenges conflict with “modern” HVAC systems.
2. Discover how age related physical and cognitive challenges fit in with naturally ventilated buildings and adaptability.
3. Discover how age related physical and cognitive challenges affect maintenance of HVAC systems.
4. Learn what to consider and advise clients for HVAC equipment and systems in Lifetime Housing.

Top 5 reasons why we may not have sent you the password:
1 You have not joined the IEQ group as per instruction step #2.
Why is this important? Linked-In does not allow us to send private emails to non-members.
2 You have not posted a password request at the IEQ group as per instruction step #3
3 You have not included the text string as per instruction step #3
4 You have sent us a private email requesting the password - see instruction step #3 and step #4
5 You have posted a request in another Linked-In discussion group - see instruction step #2

Background - we have over 800 pages at the website many with course slides and spreadsheet tools. In order for us to manage who wants what and from where, our administrative team assigns a password to a URL and uses the IEQ Linked In group to manage the request. Additionally our email is backlogged to last year so sending us private emails requesting passwords for this years conference material is an exercise in futility...if you really want the resources - please follow the instructions.
